THIS is with reference to the letter ‘Children in Thar go democratic’ (Jan 22). The letter is quite an eye-opener as it reveals the deprivation of the people of the far-flung region of Tharparkar.
While the writer suggests that these young parliamentarians should be invited to national and provincial assembles to experience first-hand how the sessions are run in the actual parliament, I believe that they are not going to learn anything positive or constructive from it.
Instead, I would suggest that the parliamentarians should attend sessions of the ‘Thar children’s parliament’ and witness how the youth of a backward region are teaching their people to pursue democratic norms in a peaceful manner, which is something that is not happening in the actual assemblies.
They have chosen a peaceful and decent path for the promotion of peace and democracy in their region instead of looking up to the nation’s parliament for resolving the problems of the country.
