Pledge to solve women’s problems

Published October 12, 2005

HARIPUR, Oct 11: District nazim-elect Yousaf Ayub Khan has assured women councillors of his cooperation and efforts to address problems of women on a priority basis. He was speaking to newly-elected women members of district council Haripur here at an iftar dinner hosted in their honour.

He said that women constituted 52 per cent of the population but they remained neglected in the past.

He promised to take the women members along in the process of bringing about real change and development in the district.

Mr Yousaf, who served as provincial minister twice, criticized the previous district government of exercising the policy of pleasing a class of population at the cost of the majority in the house, adding that the members opposed to his predecessor were deprived of their right of funds.

He however vowed not to repeat that practice and distribute the funds equally. He said the problems of women members and their constituents would be addressed on a priority basis.

He told them that the era of real development had just set in and the uplift schemes worth millions would be directed to Haripur projects.

On this occasion the women councillors assured the district nazim of their full support and cooperation.
