PCB assures ECB Pindi Stadium safe

LAHORE, Oct 10: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on the advice of its England counterpart (ECB) has sought a report from engineers to assure them that there is no structural damage to Pindi Stadium, Rawalpindi as a result of severe earthquake which struck the country on Saturday.

The PCB director cricket operations Saleem Altaf said on Monday that the report had been sent to ECB.

Pindi Stadium will host England for back-to-back fourth and fifth One-day matches during their Oct 26 to Dec 22 tour of Pakistan.

Saleem said that the stadium was in perfect condition and remained safe after the earthquake.

He said that ECB wished to raise funds for the victims of the earthquake and one of the five One-day matches of the home series could be declared as fund raising campaign.

SHABBIR’S REPORT

Commenting on the bio-mechanic’s report on lanky medium-pacer Shabbir Ahmed, Saleem said that he had talked to Daryl Foster of the Western Australia on Monday on this subject.

“The report is likely to be received by the ICC in a couple of days which will decide further course of action,” he said.

Saleem, however, said that there was improvement in the bowling action of Shabbir and hopefully the bowler would be allowed to bowl against England.

The ICC could allow Shabbir to bowl or it could also send the case to its bowling review committee.

Shabbir, who had been called for the second time for suspect bowling action, appeared for bio-mechanics test in the Western Australia last month under the guidance of ICC.

He was called for suspect action during Pakistan team’s tour to the West Indies in April-May this year.

His bent was 27 degrees which is far away from 15 degrees allowed by the ICC.
