KHYBER: An elderly Afghan died of suffocation at the Torkham border on Saturday as thousands of returning Afghans got stuck in a narrow barbed way leading to the border crossing due to mismanagement by the National Logistic Cell (NLC) staff.

Sources said another Afghan fainted during the rush and was shifted to a health centre. They said the unnecessary obstacles created by the NLC staff in allowing Afghans to return to their country and enter Pakistan had resulted in extreme congestion inside the barbed way, causing severe inconvenience to children and women in particular.

Separately, a young boy died of electrocution in Jamrud on Saturday. His family said Irfan khan mistakenly touched a bare electric wire at his home in Shah Zaman Kalay.

In Tirah valley, a young man was stabbed to death by a rival. Reason of the incident could not be known. The victim was identified as Sadiq.
