KARACHI, Oct 10: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement has dispatched Rs 50 million worth relief supplies for the earthquake victims in the NWFP, Punjab, Northern Areas and Azad Kashmir.

Khidmat-i-Khalq Foundation of the MQM had sent this relief by special planes, trains and trucks.

The 25 truck and container load relief included 90,610 kgs ata, 6,600 blankets, nine tonnes of ghee, 50 tents, 90,000 kg sugar, 10,000 kg rice, 500 kg tea, 2,500 kg milk, 5,000 packets of biscuits, 2,000 soaps and other items besides clothing and life saving drugs for 70000 people.

Theses items were collected at 50 relief camps set up in the city under the directives of MQM founder Altaf Hussain.

The MQM had already donated medicine worth five million and Rs 5 million in cash for the earthquake victims. Meanwhile relief supplies worth 20 million, collected from various parts of Sindh have been despatched by road to Punjab and other affected areas.

In addition, 300 bottles of blood was also being despatched. A team of 30 doctors, including orthopaedic surgeons, was already serving in the affected areas. More medical teams would be despatched in the coming days.

Relief supplies also included sheermal, biscuits and other eatables. These supplies were sent in trucks by Dr Farooq Sattar, Mustafa Kamal, Kunwar Naveed Jameel, Ms Nasreen Jaleel, Shoaib Akhtar, Haneef Soorti, Mumtaz Haider, Adil Siddiqui, Wasim Akhtar and Abdul Quddoos MPA.
