KARACHI, Oct 10: The State Bank of Pakistan has donated Rs200 million to the President’s Relief Fund for Earthquake Victims-2005. Five banks have already contributed Rs155 million towards the fund while more donations are expected from other banks.
SBP Governor Dr Ishrat Husain announced on Monday that all employees of the SBP, SBP Banking Services Corporation and the National Institute of Banking and Finance would donate their one-day salary to the fund. This would be in addition to the Rs200 million announced by the SBP.
A number of banks have announced hefty amounts as donation. The United Bank took the lead by announcing Rs50 million followed by the National Bank which announced Rs35 million.
The Muslim Commercial Bank has donated Rs20 million whereas the PICIC and PICIC Commercial Bank jointly announced a donation of Rs20 million.
The federal government has now decided to allow all branches of scheduled commercial banks to receive donations to the President’s relief fund.
BMG GROUP: The BMG Group has announced a donation of Rs3.5 million on behalf of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and the SITE Association of Industry for victims of the earthquake.
The KCCI has cancelled an Iftar dinner for Karachi-based diplomats. It was scheduled to be held on Wednesday but cancelled keeping in view the three-day mourning being observed by the nation in deference to thousands of deaths in the Saturday earthquake.
SLIC DONATION: The State Life Insurance Corporation (SLIC) has contributed Rs100 million to the President’s relief fund, according to an announcement made by SLIC chairman Kamal Afsar on Monday.
SLIC employees have also pledged their one-day salary towards the fund.
PARCO: The Pak-Arab Refinery (PARCO) has contributed Rs40 million to the President’s quake relief fund.
According to an announcement by the company, PARCO employees would also contribute their one-day salary amounting to a total of Rs1.648 million to the fund. The company has also arranged 100 tents, 500 blankets, 500 floor mats, food grain and essential medicines for quake victims.
KARACHI CLUB: Members of the Karachi Club have donated Rs2.5 million to the President’s quake relief fund, a statement issued by the club on Monday said.
PIMA: The Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) on Monday dispatched a team of surgeons and OT technicians along with medical equipment worth Rs1.3 million to the quake-hit areas.
The team comprising 12 surgeons and 17 OT technicians was led by Dr Intikhab Taufiq.
TCS: TCS express centres all over the country will accept public donations for onward delivery to Edhi Trust in the form of crossed cheque, warm clothing, blankets, dry food and other items for earthquake victims.
According to an announcement made here Monday, the TCS has made arrangements with the Edhi Trust for the collection and transportation of relief goods free of cost to the affected areas.
Cheques can be issued in favour of Abdul Sattar Edhi Foundation, it added.
MOBILINK: The Mobilink GSM has dispatched a 15-vehicle convoy carrying relief goods, including medicines, blankets, warm cloths, biscuits, dry milk, juices, etc., to the quake-hit areas of NWFP, said a statement here on Monday.
The relief goods, as well as free phone connections and cards, would be distributed among the affected people in Abbotabad, Mansehra, Balakot, Shinkiari, etc.
