Kaneria makes rare appearance

KARACHI, Oct 9: A.O.CC and Tapal CC completed convincing victories in the 20th Karachi Gymkhana Ramazan Festival cricket tournament at the KG Ground on a day which saw a rare appearance by Test spinner Danish Kaneria on Sunday.

A.O. CC proved an easy 60-run win over Sui Gas CC with Shaheen Malik completing a good all-round performance to earn the Man-of-the-Match award.

In the other match, Tapal CC won a low-scoring fixture by eight wickets after bowling out Sindh Police for a paltry 93.

Kaneria, the Test leg-spinner, took one for 30 in five overs for the losers.

A.O. CC 171-7 in 25 overs (Nadeem Shaikh 39, Fahadullah 23, Shaheen Malik 23, Ibrahim Qureshi 20; Sohail Mehdi 2-13); SUI GAS CC (Mohammad Zafar 42, Wajid Ali 20; S.M.A. Shah 3-20, Shaheen Malik 3-24).

Tapal CC beat Sindh Police by eight wickets.

SINDH POLICE 93 in 24.3 overs (Shujaat 25; Shahid Iqbal 3-21, Rashid Hanif 2-6, Asad Butt 3-12); TAPAL CC 98-2 in 12.5 overs (Saeed bin Nasir 44 not out, Tariq Haroon 22 not out, Hasan Arshad 22).

Monday’s fixture: Delhi City Gymkhana v Malir Gymkhana.
