FAISALABAD, Oct 9: Anti-Corruption Establishment inspector Sabghatullah has been arrested and sent behind bars for exonerating the motor registration scandal mastermind.

Reports said the ACE inspector in a preliminary inquiry report on charges against Excise and Taxation Officer Farman Masood declared him responsible for the scam, but later absolved him of the crime after getting thousands of rupees as illegal gratification.

The matter was brought into the notice of the ACE director-general, who ordered registration of a case against inspector Sabghatuallah. The ACE officials arrested him and sent him to jail.

Body formed: A special committee has been constituted to take action against profiteers during Ramazan.

This was said by District Coordination Officer Athar Husain Khan while talking to the press here on Sunday.

The DCO said pulses, flour, ghee, sugar, meat, fruits, vegetables and other daily-use items would be made available to consumers with the cooperation of whole-sale dealers, retailers and local millers.

He warned that those involved in hoarding, adulteration, black marketing and overcharging during the holy month would be dealt with an iron hand.

He directed retailers to display price lists at conspicuous places in their shops and ensure quality and quantity. Special complaint cells would be set up at district and tehsil headquarters so that people could seek quick relief by contacting them, he said.

Moreover, monitoring committees, consisting of local government officials, had also been constituted in all tehsils to keep a strict watch over the price and supply position.
