KARACHI, Oct 8: Pakistan’s all rounder Shoaib Malik on Saturday said that he was ready to open the innings during the coming high profile home series against England.
The Sialkot-born all rounder said that he did open innings during the last tour of West Indies and if needed he was ready to do it again.
Malik said that Pakistan was facing serious difficulties for some time for not having a regular pair of openers after Saeed Anwar-Aamir Sohail era.
He said that due to continuous failure of openers Pakistan needed a reliable pair of openers who could sustain the first fifteen overs pressure and could also accumulate reasonable number of runs to give the team a solid start.
Malik was of the view that first ten to fifteen overs were important in the team’s performance.
“England no doubt seemed invincible at the moment after beating world champions Australia but situation was quite different in the Ashes series and they would face comparatively different situation here”, said Malik.
He said that the key weapon for the English bowlers was the reverse swing during the Ashes series but it will not be easy for them to do the same in Pakistan due to different nature for pitches.—PPI
