BAHAWALPUR, Oct 8: A 16-month-old child, who was allegedly kidnapped on Oct 4 for ransom, was recovered and four kidnappers were arrested by police on Saturday. At a hurriedly-called press conference, Bahawalpur Range DIG Ghulam Haider Marth and DPO Arif Nawaz said Muhammad Abubakar, the son of Muhammad Umar, a furniture maker, was kidnapped by Umar’s cousin Abdul Aziz along with three accomplices.

They demanded Rs2 million ransom by telephone. The child’s parents informed police.

The DIG and DPO said on a tip off police launched an operation at Darbar Chandi Pir near Karachi bypass. The child was recovered and the four kidnappers were arrested. They are; Abdul Aziz, his brothers Tariq and Tahir.

The identity of the fourth suspect was not revealed by police.

Cantonment police are investigating.

The DPO told a questioner that the arrest of parliamentary secretary Makhdoom Syed Ali Hasan Gilani and his men, against whom a case was registered on the eve of election at Ahmadpur East, will be arrested at suitable time.
