LAHORE, Oct 8: The Punjab government has announced Rs50 million each for earthquake victims in the NWFP and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, promising to grant more if need be.

The announcement came after Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi was informed in London about the destruction caused by the tremors on Saturday morning.

The provincial government has also announced Rs100,000 each for those dead and Rs50,000 each for the injured in the quake in the Punjab.

A detailed survey of public buildings, especially schools, has been ordered to ascertain the damage caused to them and take remedial measures.

Meanwhile, a Chief Minister’s Relief Fund has been set up in the province for assistance and rehabilitation of earthquake affected people. Cash, eatables, medicines and other relief items may be donated to the fund.

The provincial government has also dispatched two emergency squads comprising 30 officials to Islamabad for the assistance of federal government in rescue work.
