KASUR: The Allahabad police on Sunday booked its own station house officer (SHO) and four constables for allegedly keeping a student in illegal confinement and torturing him.

According to the first information report (FIR) registered on the complaint of Sardar Aurangzaib, an uncle of the student, police picked up his nephew, Muhammad Joreen, from outside a bank on Allahabad-Kasur road on Jan 13 where two transporter groups were exchanging fire and using clubs against each other.

Police allegedly picked up his nephew, took him to the police station and detained him. The FIR also alleged that police tortured Joreen after undressing him and injured him. Later, on the intervention of some locals, he was released.

The Chunian THQ Hospital, however, refused to conduct a medical examination without a docket that was not issued by the police station.

Later, Joreen had to move the judicial magistrate after which the police station issued the document after much reluctance.

The THQ hospital, however, referred him to the DHQ hospital, which issued the medical report on Saturday.

Allahabad police then lodged a criminal case under sections 342, 506 and 337 L-2 against SHO Zaheer Alam, Constable Liaquat Ali and three unidentified cops. An investigation was under way.

DOCTORS BEATEN UP: Relatives of a patient allegedly roughed up the doctors and paramedical staff of the Phoolnagar Rural Health Centre (RHC) and ransacked the health facility for referring their patient to Lahore.

According to an application submitted to the Phoolnagar police station, Rescue 1122 staff had taken a patient with abdominal complications to the RHC.

The patient, after initial treatment, was referred to Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital due to his serious condition and lack of facilities at the RHC.

This annoyed the relatives of the patients who used abusive language against the doctors and paramedical staff, manhandled them and ransacked the RHC emergency ward.

Police were looking into the matter.
