ISLAMABAD, Oct 7: The Election Commission of Pakistan will notify the official results of the third and the last phase of the local elections in all the four provinces soon after the submission of consolidated results from returning officers.
Election Commission Secretary Kanwar Dilshad has announced that the unofficial results of the local government indirect elections 2005, have already been released, but the official results would be issued for publication in the gazette immediately on the receipt from the returning officers.
He explained that the indirect elections to district councils and tehsil/town councils in the third phase were held in 108 districts and 389 tehsils/towns of the country.
There were 430 candidates to contest elections for the seats of district nazims whereas 1,457 candidates contested elections for the seats of tehsil/town nazims through out the country. Ghotki district of Sindh was excluded where the Sindh High Court had stayed the elections. District nazim elections in Kharan (Balochistan) and tehsil nazim elections in Jhang (Punjab) also could not held as the Supreme Court had stayed the polls.
There were 2,645 reserved seats for women, peasants/workers and minority communities in district councils of the country, against those 7,184 candidates contested elections.
There were 2,927 reserved seats for women, peasant/workers and minority communities in tehsil/town councils of the country against those 9,382 candidates contested the elections.
