LARKANA, Oct 7: A division bench of the Sindh High Court, Larkana circuit, on Friday converted the applications of three women under-trial prisoners to constitutional petitions and called the record and proceedings of their cases from the courts concerned.

The bench consisted of Justice Zia Parvaiz and Justice Amir Muslim Hani. The women prisoners — Mumtaz Mahisar, and Hamida Rind — appeared in the court and narrated their ordeals to judges and submitted applications.

The high court called the record and proceedings from the courts concerned and issued notices for preliminary hearing on October 13 to additional advocate-general and Shahzado Rind, the husband of Hamida Rind, presently lodged in the Jacobabad district jail.

Ms Mumtaz, wife of Ali Ahmed Mahisar, told Dawn in the court that she had been implicated in a fake case of killing her husband.

She said she was mother of eight children and was in jail for the last eight years.

The court had granted her bail but being poor she could not arrange required ‘surety’ amount to come out.

If released she preferred to go to her younger brother.

Ms Hamida said she had married with Shahzado Rind on April 23 after divorced by her first husband Abdul Majeed.

She said following a kidnapping case against them, they surrendered at the Jacobabad police station.
