Ejaz shines as Rangoonwala keep title

KARACHI: Rangoonwala CC retained their Corporate Twenty20 League cricket title after sealing a six-wicket win against Karachi Striker sin the final at the second edition at the Quaid-e-Azam Park Cricket Ground in Pakistan Steel Township here the other day.

Karachi Strikers, put into bat, CC were restricted for 121-8 with skipper Mubashir Khan making 27 and Anas Paracha 26.

Rangoonwala skipper Ejaz Ahmed grabbed four wickets for 17 runs with his leg-spinners to be named man-of-the-match.

Rangoonwala then knocked off the required runs with 19 balls to spare as Khushal Khan Khattak slammed 41 off 28 balls (five fours), while opener Noman Ali contributed 32.

Paceman Haider Ali took 2-42.

Sports director of Rangoonwala Group Rizwan Haider graced the occasion as the chief guest and distributed the prizes along with chief organiser Atiq Ahmed.

Ejaz Ahmed, who was adjudged player-of-the-tournament, collected the winners’ trophy and cash award of Rs20,000 while Mubashir Khan received the runners-up trophy and Rs10,000. Other individual prizes went to Rangoonwala’s Ahmed Abdul Malik (best batsman with 271 runs) and Mubashir won the best bowler prize for claiming 13 wickets.

Shaeel Durab wins in two categories

LAHORE: Overall 15 matches were decided in different age categories on the first day of the Rafum Punjab Junior Tennis Championship 2021 at the Punjab Lawn Tennis Association courts in Bagh-i-Jinnah here on Tuesday.

While six matches each were held in Under-18 and U-14 categories, three were played in U-16.

Boys U-18: Shaeel Durab beat Hassan Ali 8-6, Bilal Asim beat Nalain Abbas 8-6, Ahtesham Arif beat Zaeem Ghafoor 8-2, Ghazi Ahmad beat Husnain Ali 8-1, Faizan Fayyaz beat Hussnain Ali Rizwan 8-2 and Hamza Jawad beat Harris Wahla 8-3.

Promoted Spezia edge Sampdoria

LA SPEZIA (Italy): Spezia beat Sampdoria 2-1 in a Ligurian derby on Monday to register consecutive victories for the first time in their debut Serie A season.

It was also Spezia’s first home win; having won at Napoli last week. M’Bala Nzola converted a second-half penalty for the winner after a header from Spezia captain Claudio Terzi put the hosts ahead early.

Antonio Candreva equalized for Samp before the break with an acrobatic volley.

Spezia moved five points clear of the drop zone, while Samp remained 11th.—AP

LAHORE: A fine knock of by Anas Raza helped Apallo Sports Club into the semi-finals of the 18th Siddiq Memorial Cricket Tournament with a two-wicket win over Khizra Club at the LCCA Ground on Tuesday.
