ISLAMABAD: Former deputy speaker National Assembly Haji Nawaz Khokhar was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Koral village on Sunday. He was 74.
Mr Khokhar was infected with Covid-19 last month. Later, his tests were negative but his lungs had been damaged.
The deceased was a well-known political figure of the federal capital.
He started his political career as the PPP general secretary in 1968 and became member of the National Assembly in 1985. He also served as federal minister for science and technology. In 1990, he became the National Assembly deputy speaker.
Mr Khokhar is survived by three sons. One of them is Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar and the others are businessmen.
Mustafa Khokhar told Dawn said his uncle Imtiaz Ali Khokhar alias Taji Khokhar passed away recently but the family decided not to share the sad news with his ailing brother.
“Rasm-i-Qul will be held at our residence at F-8/1 after Zuhr prayers on Monday (today),” he said.
