KARACHI: The city’s weather is likely to remain under the influence of “Siberian high” for a week more, a Met department official stated on Tuesday.

The minimum and maximum temperature recorded was 8.5 degrees Celsius and 25.5 degree Celsius, respectively.

“The westerly wave currently gripping the northern and central parts of the country hasn’t penetrated deeper into its southern region. What’s influencing Karachi is the Siberian high,” said Sardar Sarfaraz representing the Met department.

It’s a massive collection of cold dry air that accumulated in the north-eastern part of Eurasia and played a significant role in wintertime climate variability over South Asia, he explained.

“The city’s temperature is likely to remain in single digit till Jan 11-12,” the official said, while describing the prolonged episodes of cold wave continuing since December 2020 for Karachi as unusual.
