Ruling party defeated in Vehari

VEHARI, Oct 6: The third phase of the polls completed and according to unofficial results, PML-backed candidates for the slots of Vehari district and Burewala tehsil nazims were defeated.

Syed Shahid Mehdi Nasim (independent) won the district nazim seat by getting 619 votes against ruling party candidate Mumtaz Khichi who got 480 votes. Shahid Mehdi won the election with the help of opposition parties, including the PML-N, the PPP and the MMA.

In Burewala, former tehsil nazim Usman Warraich won the election by getting 206 votes against PML candidate Chaudhry Nazir Arain who got 188 votes.

In Vehari tehsil, ex-tehsil nazim and official candidate Mian Saqib Khursheed won by getting 161 votes against PML-N’s Chaudhry Zahid Anwar Wahla, the husband of Tehmina Daultana.

In Mailsi tehsil, ruling party candidate Asim Saeed Manais won the tehsil nazim seat by getting 139 votes while his rival, Jahanzaib Khichi, got 138 votes. — Correspondent
