LAHORE The Makhdumzada Syed Hassan Mahmud Memorial New Year Cup marks distinctly the nine-event card set in connection with the New Year celebrations besides two other cup races programmed for the auspicious occasion at the Racecourse here on Saturday.

Race meeting scheduled for Sunday has been brought forward by a day. All three cup races besides a couple of other events are being participated by the high bloodline progenies for a big attraction of prize money on offer, particularly the Makhdumzada Hassan Mahmud Memorial New Year Cup in which the winner will get rupees half a million in cash besides the cup and colts/fillies occupying the next three places would be awardedRs200,000, Rs100,000 and Rs50,000 respectively.

The step is aimed at providing some consolation to the coronavirus (Covid-19)-hit breeding and racing industry which had endured lockdowns. This serves as good relief for owners, trainers and those connected with the equine sports industry and a good deal of fun to spectators to begin the new year on a happy note.

In all, 80 horses are taking part in nine races drawn for about five hours equine sporting activity in which at least forty thoroughbred of different age groups will be jostling for top honours.

The first race will be held at 11:30am.
