LAHORE: The prestigious Jinnah Cup — which is being held in connection with the birth celebrations of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah — and the equally important Christmas Cup will be the feature races during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday.
The Jinnah Cup, a class VI division III and IV to be contested over the sprinting distance of 1,100 metres, has six runners who have confirmed credentials as the sprinters. Filly Repunzel Beauty, in spite of her placing on top of the handicap is being favoured to win the coveted cup while colt Special One and filly Sajni will be her main challengers.
The Christmas Cup, a term race for two-year-old colts and fillies (Maidens) to be gone over 1,200 metres, is being staged to express solidarity to join the Christian community in celebrating their festival.
Thirteen high pedigree well-bred colts and fillies are participating to make it an interesting affair with at least a quartet on chance — Royal Solution, Breaking Bad, Mr Gondal, and Nawab.
The event will be presenting a specimen of the quality of horse-breeding and the progress made by the breeders in injecting top foreign bloodlines to produce thoroughbreds in the c1ountry. A card of seven races will be gone through.
