COLOMBO, Oct 4: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) secretary Tryphon Mirando, aged 53 died in London after suffering a heart attack. Mirando was visiting his wife and two daughters, who are studying in England.

A long time official of a leading Sri Lanka cricket club, Tamil Union, he was appointed into his role in March at a time when the board was in crisis. But things have been on a more even keel since then following a difficult period when allegations of financial irregularities were commonplace.

Mirando was selected by sports minister Jeevan Kumaratunga as part of an interim committee.

He was just settling into his post when police raided Sri Lanka Cricket’s offices just hours after the then chief executive Duleep Mendis resigned.—Agencies
