KARACHI, Oct 4: Blood samples of a 17-year-old boy, admitted in Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, suspected to be suffering from Congo Fever have been despatched to the National Institute of Health Sciences - Islamabad.

JPMC Director Prof Mashoor Alam on Tuesday said that confirmation of the disease, attributed to a fatal virus, could be ascertained with receipt of test report expected by Wednesday morning.

He said the youth, belonging to lower income strata, had been admitted in the JPMC with possible symptoms of Congo virus. “The symptoms as bleeding from different parts of the body and persistent fever could be due to other conditions too but the fact that it also manifests Congo Fever cannot be overlooked,” he said.

He said other symptoms of the ailment were skin rashes and severe drop in blood count. However, he said: “We ought to have a clear picture to ensure proper treatment.”—APP
