LAHORE: The regional police officers conference has decided to refer financial irregularity cases of the Punjab police to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The RPO conference chaired by Inspector General of Police Inam Ghani also took many other important decisions here on Wednesday. All RPOs, district police officers and other command officers attended the conference.
After detailed deliberations, the conference decided that in order to keep the financial matters of the districts smooth, the corruption cases of the Punjab police would be sent to the NAB for investigation.
“I will not show hesitation in sending cases to the NAB,” said the IGP while addressing the conference. He said the DPOs should make full use of the software designed by the IT branch for close monitoring of financial matters while letters regarding accountants should be sent to the RPOs for inquiry instead of dealing at the district level.
The accountants if found guilty should immediately be replaced. A departmental action should also be initiated against them.
The IG police also said explanatory notices would be issued to the city police officers and the DPOs concerned on sending wrong statistics about crimes to the Central Police Office. He directed action against the elements involved in the sale and use of poisonous and raw liquor at Christmas and against those driving bikes on one-wheel on New Year’s night.
Mr Ghani said that in view of the coming Christmas, the RPOs and DPOs should prepare security plans under their supervision to protect the Christian community and their religious places as well as recreational places across the province.
He said checking through CCTV cameras, metal detectors and walk-through gates for entry into A-category churches should be ensured and additional traffic police personnel should be deployed in the vicinity of the places of parks, public places to maintain uninterrupted flow of traffic and for the convenience of the citizens. Earlier, the RPOs and DPOs gave briefings on crime prevention and overall performance in their respective regions and districts.
The IGP directed senior field police officers to investigate cases of women and children abuses under their supervision. He said geo-fencing, forensic science and modern investigation tools should be used to investigate the heinous crimes including murder and rape.
He said the criminals involved in the heinous business of drug trafficking are the scourge of society which should be eradicated and information-based intelligence operations should be continued to ensure cleanliness of big crocodiles as well as small dealers.
During the conference, fateha was also offered for the elevation of the ranks of the martyrs of the APS tragedy.
