ABBOTTABAD: Commissioner Hazara Riaz Khan Mehsud has urged ulema and elders to create awareness of safety measures among people to protect them from contracting Covid-19 and contain spread of the virus.
He was addressing the ulema and elders at Markazi Jamia Masjid after Friday prayers here.
Mr Mehsud said that currently Abbottabad was on top of the list for coronavirus cases and it was need of the hour for all segments of society to adopt the standard operating procedures and also educate others on them to control the spread of the virus.
The commissioner said that in case Covid-19 incidence remained high they would have no other option, but to impose lockdown in Abbottabad city He said that the district administration and other departments had been taking all appropriate steps to create awareness among general public to contain the virus.
Abbottabad deputy commissioner, assistant commissioners and other officials were also present on the occasion.
Earlier, the commissioner presided over a meeting at his office to review the Covid-related situation in Hazara division and discussed availability of beds in the government and private sector hospitals.
Official of the health department and principals of Abbottabad International Medical College, Women Medical College and Frontier Medical College and dean of Ayub Medical College attended the meeting.
