PESHAWAR: Pakistan Peoples Party has asked its workers to take active part in anti-government protest demonstrations of Pakistan Democratic Movement in different districts on Sunday (today).

In a statement, party’s provincial president Mohammad Humayun Khan condemned the registration of FIR against some of the organisers of PDM rally held on Nov 22 in Peshawar and described it as an attempt to pressurise the opposition.

“Our party is fully determined to hold protest demonstrations against the government as per announcement by the PDM to express concern over the undemocratic attitude of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government,” he said.

The PPP leader alleged that the government was using state machinery against the opposition parties by arresting their workers, registering cases against them and creating hurdles to the public gatherings though PDM’s activities were completely peaceful.

Mr Humayun said the government had allowed ministers to hold public meetings, but it was worried about Covid-19 spread in the opposition’s gatherings. He said other parties like Jamaat-i-Islami and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf were holding meetings, but only opposition was targeted.

The PPP leader criticised the government and asked it to stop the policy of dual standard and allow democratic activities. He said the opposition parties would not bow to any pressure tactics.

Condemning increasing prices of essential commodities, he said the PTI government had made the lives of people miserable by deceiving them through hollow slogans.

He claimed that PTI had failed to honour the pledges it made with the people during its election campaign.
