DADU: Sindh Health Secretary Kazim Ali Jatoi on Thursday said that a medical college and 400-bed hospital was being established in Sehwan.

Mr Jatoi said that while efforts in this regard were under way, a meeting with Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah would be held to discuss construction of a building for the medical college.

The college and hospital was being established at the Syed Abdullah Shah Institute of Medical and Health Sciences, Sehwan, he told the media after his meeting with doctors serving at the institute.

He observed that the institute was handling a large number of patients every day and, therefore, a medical college and hospital were needed to be established here.

He took rounds of various sections of the institute and received a briefing from doctors about the quality of services as well as facilities available there for patients and staff.

During his visit to the Covid-19 centre functioning within the institute, he inspected the diagnostic and testing system. He assured the doctors that more machinery and equipment required for Covid-19 testing would be provided to the institute.

He said he realised that the institute was running short of doctors, and said posting on vacant positions would be made soon to deal with the situation.

Expressing his impressions, Mr Jatoi said he found the institute as one of the best health facilities in the province. He appreciated the services being provided at the dialysis, CT scan, physiotherapy and other sections of the institute. Earlier, director of the institute Dr Moeenuddin Siddiqui briefed the health secretary about working and facilities at all departments, sections and wards.

He said that the feasibility report of the proposed medical college and 400-bed hospital was completed as both projects were approved by the Sindh government. He recalled that the Sindh Assembly had adopted a resolution in this regard and the related schemes were made part of the annual development programme.

Additional director of the institute Dr Manzoor Ahmed Brohi, Jamshoro district health officer Dr Mushtaq Ahmed Solangi and his Dadu counterpart Dr Zahid Dawach accompanied the health secretary during his visit.
