Gul Bano guides JCW into final

PESHAWAR, Oct 1: Lefty Gul Bano steered Jinnah College for Women (JCW) into the final of the Inter-college badminton championship beating Government Higher Secondary School Chamkani at the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education on Saturday.

Despite losing the singles to top seed of Government Higher Secondary School Chamkani, Gul Bano with her powerful crosscourt and overhead smashes, guided her team into the final.

Chamkani were in commanding position after Tahira’s win in the first singles against Muskan Aman in straight sets 11-7, 11-9, 11-8. But then Gul Bano inflicted defeat on Naseeba in her second singles 11-8, 9-11, 9-11, 11-8, 13-11 after a tough battle which lasted for an hour.

Gul Bano and Faiza toppled Chamkani duo Shazia and Tahira in a five-set battle 12-15, 15-13, 17-15, 15-17, 15-13.

Tahira stood out for Chamkani as she won her singles and put up tough resistance against Jinnah College in the doubles.

In the second semifinal Government Girls College, Charsadda defeated defending champions Frontier College for Women (FCW) 3-1.

Ania Orakzai tasted defeat in the first singles to Naleem in a straight-set encounter 11-8, 11-9, 11-9.

In the second singles Anood outclassed Shumaila 3-1 (11-7, 8-11, 11-8, 11-9), and Ania-Anood beat Naleem-Shumaila 3-1 (12-15, 15-13, 17-15, 15-12, 15-9).

The final will be played on Monday.—APP
