BADIN, Oct 1: The retrenched workers of the Army Welfare Sugar Mills (AWSM), Badin, whose services were terminated by the mill management during pendency of their service case in the National Industrial Relations Commission (NIRC), continued their token hunger strike on the tenth day on Saturday at the Shah Latif Road to protest against the mill management.
General Secretary of workers union Syed Ali Mohammad Shah accused the mill management for delaying acceptance of the charter of demands, which was presented on January 25, 2003. During these two years, the management transferred active workers to other provinces.
He said that the union filed an application against illegal transfers with the NIRC, Karachi bench, and the commission had issued status quo which was intact, he said.
He alleged that the AWSM management sacked 131 workers during pendency of the case and the management had breached the court orders for which an application under the contempt of court was also filed, he said.
