LOWER DIR: Special assistant to the chief minister on anti-corruption, MPA Shafiullah Khan on Monday said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had approved Rs1.4 billion for Timergara beautification and gravity water supply projects.

Addressing a teachers’ function at the government higher secondary school, Ziarat Talash, he said work on several link roads was in progress.

The function was arranged by the All Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Subject Specialists’ Association in the honour of newly-appointed subject specialists in schools.

MPA Shafiullah said education was the top priority of the government, and every possible step was being taken to improve and provide quality education to the students.

The lawmaker said the Timergara campus of the Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan, had been upgraded, and a degree college for girls in Talash had also been approved.

He said the government had released Rs800 million for the Timergara Medical College, work on which was in the final stages.

He said equipment for the medical college had already been purchased. He said his government would not tolerate corruption and irregularities in development projects.

The PTI lawmaker said criminal cases would be registered against those found plundering the government money.

Other speakers demanded provision of basic facilities at primary schools, grade 18 for subject specialists and service structure for IT teachers.

They said the teaching community would resist any move by the government to privatise the education sector.
