LAHORE: According to the Punjab government, coronavirus has claimed lives of 22 more people during the past 24 hours, taking the tally in the province to 2,848.

The official data also shows 553 fresh cases surfacing during the same period, taking the total number of cases in Punjab to 114,010.

The highest number of 229 new cases have been reported in Lahore, 70 in Rawalpindi, 47 in Multan, 34 in Sargodha, 31 in Bahawalpur, 28 in Faisalabad, 15 in Gujranwala and 13 in Layyah.

Similarly, 9 positive cases surfaced in Mianwali, 8 each in Jhelum, Bahawalnagar and Dera Ghazi Khan, seven each in Khanewal and Rahim Yar Khan, five each in Khushab, Gujrat and Sahiwal, four each in Toba Tek Singh, Okara and Bhakkar, three each in Sialkot, Lodhran, Jhang and Muzaffargarh, two each in Rajanpur and Vehari, and one each in Narowal, Nankana Sahib and Chakwal.

The Punjab primary and secondary healthcare department spokesman says the department has so far conducted 1.85 million tests and added that 97,991 coronavirus patients had recovered in the province.

The spokesman said people should ensure protective measures to save themselves and others from the coronavirus.

In case of having symptoms, the spokesman said, people should immediately contact helpline 1033.
