LONDON: Shipping agents in Tel Aviv are making fat profits by arranging passages to the United States at £350 a time for Jews, who unlike the Zionists, want to leave Palestine. Passengers travel in Spanish ships and there is keen competition for places. Heavy deposits are demanded and in addition the passengers are required to pay “cabin-money” as an extra fee.

Most of the applicants are not going merely on business trips but want to leave Palestine for good. The American Consulate in Jerusalem re-opened its visa list in September for those desiring to take up residence in the United States, reports the Jerusalem correspondent of the Daily Mail.

An … average of 113 such applications are made weekly. …A great majority of the applicants hold Palestine passports, though not all were born in Palestine. The correspondent writes: “In other words they have used Palestine as a stepping-stone … [T]he same uncertainty about making Palestine their permanent home seems to prevail among some of the Jews who live here. …[T]here are 4,000 Americans and 17,000 Germans among the foreigners who have not yet applied for Palestine passports, though the Zionists would like them to.”
