Seven-year-old girl fights for life after rape in Lahore

LAHORE: A seven-year-old girl was hospitalised after a shopkeeper allegedly raped her at gunpoint in Nawab Town area on Saturday.

Police arrested the 35-year-old suspect and lodged a case against him on the complaint of the girl’s father. The incident occurred at Lalazar Colony when she had visited the shop to buy some edibles.

According to the FIR, the suspect took her in a portion of his shop, allegedly raped her at gunpoint and then fled the scene on finding her in serious condition. As the matter came to the notice of her father, he immediately shifted his daughter to a hospital where doctors confirmed the act of brutality.

He later alerted police who raided the hideout of the suspected rapist and arrested him.

The low cinviction rate due to reliance on the existing unscientific evidence--eyewitness testimony--has caused an increase in the rapes and sexual assaults on children and women in Pakistan. There is need to admissible DNA test report as primary evidence in the courts to decrease these henious incidents.

The violent crime situation in Pak is so advanced that the solution is likely beyond the capabilities of the state. By now people should realise that girls are in danger at almost every turn.

@JOY, As long as law does not take course. There is no such thing as respect of law, it is the fear of law. In Zainab's case, it took 9 months to punish the culprit after being caught. By that time, everyone had already forgotten the case. It matters the least if you give capital punishment or castration or lashes or whatever. What matters the most is the speedy justice. Criminal will think thousand times if he is sure that he will be caught and punished in next 3 days.
