PESHAWAR, Sept 30: US Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker called on NWFP Governor Khalilur Rehman at the Governor’s House here on Friday.
Mr Crocker, who was accompanied by Mark Ward, Deputy Assistant Administrator for Asia Near East Bureau of USAID, and other senior officials of the US Embassy, remained with the governor for some time and discussed various matters of common interest.
They especially discussed matters relating to the US-funded development projects, particularly in the education sector, in various agencies of the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (Fata). The governor appreciated the progress of work on the projects and described them as being highly useful.
Referring to a point, the governor said that apart from the socio-economic development sectors, including agriculture and minerals, the government was also focusing on the provision of clean drinking water facilities in FATA.
MEETING WITH VICE CHANCELLOR: The vice-chancellor, NWFP University of Engineering and Technology, Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, called on NWFP Governor Khalilur Rehman at the Governor’s House, Peshawar, on Friday and apprised him about some of the salient features of the on-going development projects as well as academic pursuits in the university.
The governor appreciated the achievements of the university. He said that efforts should continue not only to maintain the pace of work but also to further accelerate them to achieve the desired standards of both infrastructure development as well as the quality of teaching to make it one of the best academic institutions of the world.
Appreciating the performance of the management of the university, especially that of its Vice-Chancellor Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani, in the maintenance of a congenial educational atmosphere, the governor also desired to maintain it at every cost and assured his fullest cooperation in this respect.
