FAISALABAD, Sept 29: National Engineering and Scientific Commission Chairman Dr Sumar Mubarik Mand has made it clear that Pakistan developed its nuclear and missile programmes by utilizing its own resources and manpower and did not believe in transfer of such sensitive technology.

Speaking to the participants in a ceremony held in connection with completion of three-years of a private university here on Thursday, he said the Pakistani scientists were introducing the latest nuclear and missile technologies for boosting the national image.

He said owing to the sincere efforts and hard work of local scientists, the country’s defence had been strengthened.

He said that NESCOM was working for affiliation with renowned local universities so that students could be educated in modern technologies, computer engineering, medical research, control and instrumentation and other engineering sectors.

He said three centres under the control of NESCOM had already been set up in the country, while three others would become functional till March next year in which the students would be given training on high-profile matters of engineering, research and instrumentation.

Earlier, university rector Abdul Ghafoor Shah, in his welcome speech highlighted the performance of the institution.

FCCI: Mian Muhammad Hanif has been elected president of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the year 2005-2006.

Mian Hanif was elected unopposed during 27-member executive committee meeting, while Rana Zafar Mehmood and Sheikh Niaz were elected as senior vice-president and vice-president, respectively.

Speaking to the meeting participants, Mian Hanif said that he would continue the policies of the previous cabinet and would work in consultation with the senior members for the betterment of the industrialists and bridge the gap between the business community and the government agencies.

The outgoing president, Mian Muhammad Adrees, thanked the members for their cooperation during his tenure and vowed to work in consultation with the elected members of the FCCI.

Meanwhile, Rana Arif Tauseef, brother of PML-N MNA Rana Asif Tauseef, has been elected as chairman of the Pakistan Textile Exporters Association.

During executive committee meeting of the PTEA, Haroon Rasheedpuri was elected as senior vice-chairman, while Ameer Ahmed and Sameer Adam were elected as vice-chairmen.
