MUZAFFARGARH: City police arrested ex-MPA Hammad Nawaz Tipu, PML-N divisional secretary general, after a case was registered against him on Friday night for alleged torture of a policeman.

He was produced before a magistrate on Saturday who granted him bail.

According to police sources, the former MPA had allegedly tortured a policeman who was performing duty on the stage during the PML-N convention at the Jinnah Stadium here on Nov 5.

As per sources, Mr Tipu also tried to snatched official weapon from the policeman, but the issue was “resolved” by Jatoi Sub Divisional Police Officer Rehan Rasool on the spot.

However, when District Police Officer Mohammad Hassan Iqbal learnt about the matter, he ordered a probe into the episode. Later, the city police registered a case and arrested the ex-MPA.
