KARACHI, Sept 28: The Sindh High Court issued the advocate-general a notice on Tuesday in a petition agitating non-registration of an FIR in a murder case.
Ms Ayesha Ujjan alleged in her petition that her husband, Aziz Ujjan, was killed “at the behest” of an ASI, Ghulam Sarwar Ujjan, who also had her daughter declared a “kari”.
The ASI and his accomplices, the petitioner further alleged, also ransacked her house and looted valuables worth Rs 400,000. She lodged a complaint with the police but it declined to register an FIR.
A division bench, comprising Justices Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Maqbool Baqar, directed that a notice be issued to the advocate-general for a date to be fixed by the office.
SBP restrained: The Sindh High Court restrained the State Bank of Pakistan on Wednesday from disbursing ’performance bonus’ to its officers.
The petitioners, one messenger and two grade I officers, stated that Rs 60 million were allocated for payment of bonus to all the SBP employees. Half the amount, that is, Rs 30 million, was equally divided among all the employees and each one of them was paid Rs 4,352. The remaining half (Rs 30 million), the petitioners submitted, was reserved for payment as ‘performance bonus’ to officers in grade II and above and special contract officers, each of whom was to be paid 21 days salary or 71 per cent of it (the monthly salary) in addition to Rs 4,352. The additional payment amounted to about Rs 150,000 or more per head.
The petitioners requested the court to direct the SBP to equally divide the entire Rs 60 million among employees without discrimination. Since payment was likely to be made along with the monthly salary on Sept 29, they sought an interim injunction against the respondent bank.
A division bench, comprising Justices Ghulam Rabbani and Azizullah M. Memon, issued the SBP a notice for Oct 4 and restrained it in the meantime to disburse ‘performance bonus’. Advocates Rasheed A. Razvi and Chaudhry Rasheed Ahmed appeared for the petitioners.
NOTICES ISSUED: The Sindh High Court has issued notice to AG Sindh and jail authorities for Oct 6 on petitions filed by the brothers of Arshad Pupoo, seeking their production in courts of law to face trials, pending against them, and injunction against their shifting from Karachi prison, adds PPI.
Yasir Arafat and Sher Mohammad, sons of Haji Lal Mohammad alias Laloo, facing trial in as many as five criminal cases, submitted they were not aware of the charges pending against them as they were not being produced before the court of law since long time which is tantamount to illegal detention.
Their counsel Ilyas Khan submitted that the petitioners were arrested as they were brothers of Arshad Pupoo while they had nothing to do with the business of their brother. The counsel also expressed the apprehension that they might be shifted to another prison in interior Sindh to avoid their trial.
The court was prayed to direct the jail authorities to produce them in a court of law and restrain them from shifting to another prison outside Karachi.
The court was also requested to issue directives to the respondents for producing lists of cases pending against the petitioners.
SHC’s division bench, comprising acting Chief Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Azizullah M Memon, after hearing the case issued notice to the AG and jail authorities and called their comments.
