KARACHI: Three persons were shot at and wounded while putting up resistance to armed muggers in different areas of the metropolis on Tuesday.

In New Karachi, a 35-year-old man, Sabir Gul, was shot at by one of the three muggers who intercepted his motorcycle within the limits of the Gabol Town police station. He offered resistance when the armed men started snatching his mobile phone and other valuables.

Mr Gul sustained a single bullet wound and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.

In another incident, a 20-year-old youth, Talha Islam, was wounded when he put up resistance to armed muggers in Orangi Town within the limits of the Pakistan Bazaar police station.

The youth was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was provided emergency medical treatment.

In yet another incident, muggers shot and wounded a shopkeeper upon resistance in Bilawal Shah Goth within the jurisdiction of the Sachal police station.

Some half a dozen armed men struck a general store and tried to rob cash from its operator, 30-year-old Abdul Rasheed, the police said, adding that he offered resistance upon which the outlaws stormed into the outlet to take away the money. They also shot and wounded Mr Rasheed.

The victim was later taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medical treatment. His condition was stated to be stable.

Youth commits suicide

A teenage youth committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his home located in Sector 5-D of New Karachi on Tuesday.

Police identified the youth as Moizuddin, 17. They took the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities and later handed it over to his parents.

The police said the initial investigation suggested that the boy was extremely disturbed after being scolded by his father over some matter.
