DAMAGED roads and highways are the leading causes of casualties in Balochistan. Nearly all the roads in the Awaran district in southern Balochistan are in disrepair. The horrendous road conditions have led to an increase in the number of accidents.
The cost of repairing the broken axles, blown tyres and battered shock absorbers put an additional burden on the vehicle owners who pay their taxes religiously. Bad roads severely affect the transport system too. This situation gets worse with every spell of rains as the drainage system fails and citizens are unable to travel from one place to another.
The government is bound to provide good infrastructure to its citizens against the taxes it collects. The people of Awaran, and of Balochistan at large, deserve better road infrastructure along with other civic amenities.
