50 research papers presented on TB

LAHORE, Sept 26: About 50 research papers were presented on tuberculosis on the second day of the 23rd international conference on tuberculosis and lung diseases at a local hotel on Monday.

The four-day conference has been jointly organized by the Pakistan Anti-TB Association, the Pakistan Chest Society and the National TB Control Programme of the Pakistan government.

Two plenary sessions were held in different halls with four scientific sessions in each session. The first plenary session discussed a paper on recent advances in diagnosis and management of tuberculosis presented by Dr Chen-Yuan Chiang. The second session discussed a paper on high prevalence of asthma in low polluted coastal areas in Bangladesh warranting in-depth investigation on causes of asthma in low-income countries. The paper was presented by Dr Kazi Saifuddin Bennoor of Bangladesh.
