GUJRANWALA, Sept 26: The anti-terrorism court No 2 convicted three people of murder and acquitted three co-accused by giving them the benefit of the doubt on Monday.
The court handed down death sentence on two counts with Rs200,000 fine collectively to brothers Kashif Siddiq and Asif Siddiq and 10 years’ imprisonment with Rs70,000 fine to their uncle Muhammad Shafiq for murdering city PPP president Chaudhry Khalid Humayun.
The judge acquitted Hafiz Muhammad Kamal Mustafa, Sabir alias Bhola and Muhammad Shafi.
The court had already declared 10 others as proclaimed offenders, including former MPA Mehr Muhammad Salim, former president of Vegetable and Fruit Commission Agent Association Chaudhry Muhammad Siddiq and his other sons — Saqib, Tahir and Faisal — and one Hafiz Muhammad Jamal.
According to the persecution, the convicts murdered PPP leader Khalid Humayun on November 25, 2002, along with his guards when he was on his way to his office from his house on Sheikhupura Road.
The court announced the decision inside the central jail amid tight security. Even journalists were not allowed to enter the jail to report the court proceedings.
FAINTED: Four family members fell unconscious after taking ‘lassi’ in Sabzi Mandi area here on Monday.
Reports said that Tariq, his wife Zareena, daughter Anam and son Tayyab took ‘lassi’, which was contaminated. They were rushed to the local DHQ Hospital where their condition was stated to be stable.

Deceased Riaz Gujjar was present in his house when accused Tariq, Wajid, Majid and their accomplices called him out and opened indiscriminate fire on him. As a result, Riaz died on the spot while four passersby — Bilal, Lubna, Muhammad Nishat and Tariq sustained injuries. They were admitted to the local DHQ Hospital in critical condition.
Police have registered a case against the accused and are investigating.
It may be mentioned that four people of the deceased party had already been killed a few years ago.
