LAHORE, Jan 19: The five-year-old thoroughbred chestnut mare, Darling Of The Royalty, who made an unceremonious exit on her last outing, should make amends and win sixth race of the 15th Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.
Darling Of The Royalty, an odds-on favourite, ran riderless on Jan 2 last, when her jockey Wajid Hussain jumped off from her shortly after start of the race.
This was the tactic he could have made to stop the mare from winning. This incident sparked off a demonstration by the punters after the race. Following it the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards stood down jockey Wajid Hussain for six months. Before that run, Darling Of The Royalty had won two back-to-back races on December 23 and December 30. Each time her victories were in a common canter.
Darling of the Royalty is participating in the sixth and last race of the day to be contested over the sprinting distance of five furlongs. It has a big field of 18 runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawals.
Among her rivals, the note-worthy contenders are: the bay horse Blu’s Wendy (Blu’s Maid-Whisper Of Wendy), the chestnut gelding K-2 (Blue Man-Dam by Bailiff Dunit), the bay colt Game Master (Shahpur-Andaleeb) and the bay filly Storm Bird (Dexter- Neptune Dancer).
A ticklish card of six events will be decided in the afternoon in which winner-picking may prove a difficult task for the punters.The first race will be held at 12 noon
