KARAK: Work on eight important projects in the Karak district has been stopped for quite some time over shortage of funds, complain rights activists.

Talking to mediapersons here on Saturday, Khattak Ittehad former president Hidayatullah Khattak, Isam Jan and others said some projects were launched during the tenure of the last ANP government, but were still incomplete.

They pointed out that work had been stalled on Jail Chowk-Karak city road worth Rs250 million, Banda-Gurguri road Rs670 million, Latamber-Mandawa road Rs120 million, judicial complex Rs820 million, girls’ degree college Latamber Rs190 million, Paloski drinking water supply schemes Rs180 million and Mandwa and Shahidan basic health units Rs130 million.

The rights activists said they had met with heads of the departments concerned, who told them that the projects were initiated from oil and gas royalty funds of Rs3 billion, but now they were facing funds shortage.

They said the local lawmakers had also failed to ensure making available the funds for completing the projects. They demanded release of funds without delay.

STUDENT KILLED: A 9th class student of a private school died after sustaining injuries during a fight with a classmate.

Police said Aqib, a resident of Shagi Lawagher, got injuries when he scuffled with a class fellow over some minor issue. He was shifted to the district headquarters hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.

They said the body was handed over to the family after autopsy. The police lodged FIR of the incident.

Meanwhile, three persons sustained injuries when a rickshaw plunged into a ravine on Madaki road. The injured were shifted to a local health centre.
