LAKKI MARWAT: Five police officials, including the station house officer of Serai Gambila police station, were arrested on charges of corruption and malpractices here on Tuesday.

An official source said the policemen were arrested after a case was registered against them under different sections of PPC. He said a local court remanded them into police custody for one day.

He said on the night of Sept 26, a party headed by Serai Gambila SHO Irfan Khan had intercepted a truck near Gambila Adda, and recovered 120kg hashish from the vehicle.

He said the police officials allegedly received Rs1.6 million from the truck driver, Ayub Khan of Kurram, and registered a case against him, showing that only three kilogrammes hashish was seized from him.

The official said DPO Abdul Rauf Baber ordered registration of case against the SHO and four constables when he learnt about the matter.

Meanwhile, an outlaw was killed in an exchange of fire with police in Land Ahmadkhel village on Tuesday.

An official said Yar Mohammad was wanted in narcotics smuggling and other cases, adding he hurled a hand grenade at the policemen and also opened fire when they were laying siege to his hideout.

The police returned the fire, killing him. His body was shifted to the city hospital. Later, a case was filed against him.
