QUETTA Sept 25: Acting Chief Election Commissioner Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar has said that foolproof arrangements should be made for the third phase of local government elections to make the contestants strictly adhere to legal requirements.

The final phase of polls are scheduled for October 6.

Chairing a high-level meeting to review arrangements for the polls in Balochistan on Sunday, the CEC said that action should be taken against candidates violating the law.

Justice Dogar said that the first two phases of LG elections were completed successfully for which the government, judiciary, administration and law-enforcement agencies’ role was appreciable.

He said the third phase would also be held in a transparent manner. The CEC said that steps should be taken to ensure protection of voters and security at sensitive stations should be enhanced for peaceful polling.

The meeting was informed that there was one city council, 27 district councils, 75 tehsil councils, and two town councils in the province. A total of 168 polling stations would be set up for 7098 voters.

Secretary Pakistan Election Commission Kanwar Dil Shad, provincial Chief Secretary K. B. Rind and Provincial Election Commissioner Chaudhary Qamaruz Zaman attended the meeting.
