ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Capital Development Authority (CDA) Affairs Ali Nawaz Awan will inaugurate the G-7/G-8 underpass tomorrow (Friday).

Talking to Dawn, he said a road project was constructed in the city after a gap of 10 years as after the Musharraf era, such projects were neglected.

“Several other development projects are in the pipeline such as construction of 10th Avenue, interchange at junction of 7th Avenue and Srinagar Avenue near Aabpara,” he said, adding the contract of Rawal Dam interchange has already been awarded and work on it will begin in November. Work on two other projects – expansion of Korang Bridge and P.W.D underpass has already been started, he said.

He later thanked the CDA team for their hard work. The project worth Rs395 million was supposed to be completed in May, but due to spread of Covid-19, work at the site was halted for months.

According to the master plan of Islamabad, CDA was supposed to construct major avenues between residential sectors to create direct links through underpasses. However, so far only a few major roads including 7th, 8th and 9th Avenues have been constructed.
