RAWALPINDI, Sept 24: Unlike the last local bodies elections, the district naib nazim Rawalpindi will now be elected by the district assembly and not by the union council members. The district naib nazim must be the member of the district assembly, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The nazims of the union councils would elect the district naib nazim following the elections of the city district nazim.
The panels of the district nazim and naib nazim were eligible to contest the elections in 2001.
Elections of the city district nazim, eight town nazims of Rawalpindi district, reserved seats of women, peasants, labourers and minorities will be held on October 6.—APP
