LAHORE: The Qul ceremony of senior journalist Riaz Shakir, who passed away on Saturday following a brief lungs illness, was held in Iqbal Town on Sunday afternoon. He was 52.

Earlier, his funeral prayers were offered after Asr prayers on Saturday and he was laid to rest at Miani Sahib graveyard. A large number of his friends from the journalist and legal fraternity attended the funeral.

Shakir had joined the reporting team of daily Jang in 1988 after a brief stint with Nawa-i-Waqt as a cartoonist and daily Musawat as a reporter. His father was also a newspaper cartoonist.

He had the distinction of being one of the competent court reporters with a three-decade experience of covering the superior courts.

He also worked for Geo TV. He was on the job till he visited the Mayo Hospital with a breathing complaint four days ago.

Shakir is survived by a widow, three sons and one daughter.
