DADU, Sept 24: A literary conference was held on the occasion of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar’s Urs on Friday. The Jamshoro DCO was the chief guest, while Professor Dr Bashir Ahmed presided over the conference.

Professor Ahmed paid rich tributes to Qalandar and said that he gave a message of peace and love.

The general secretary of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat, Taj Joyo, urged the urs committee and the administration of Jamshoro to compile the poetry of Lal Shahbaz to publish it.

Those who also spoke about the life and teachings of Shahbaz Qalandar were Aziz Kingrani, Nafees Ahmed Sheikh, Qazi Maqsood Gul, Sail Azad, Rajib Azad Solangi, Nashtar Nathan Shah and Dr Altaf Azeem.

CHILDREN SHOW: A show for children was held in the Shahbaz auditorium on Saturday. Children from different schools presented tableaux and songs. The provincial minister for education, Dr Hamida Khuhro could not arrive to attend the show.

DROWNING: Four persons were drowned in Aral Wah, originating from the Manchhar Lake, on the eve of Shahbaz Qalandar’s urs in Sehwan on Saturday.

Their bodies were taken out by the social workers and buried at the Sehwan graveyard.

Two of the deceased were identified as Jehangir, 25, a resident of Barrage colony, Hyderabad, and Sohail Channar, 28, a resident of Mazdoorabad Mohalla, Dadu.

The relatives of the deceased alleged that the district administration and the urs committee failed to provide water that was why the devotees had to go to such places to fetch water.

CRUSHED: A person, Naveed Ahmed, 25, a resident of Chicha Watni, was crushed to death by a passenger coach on Saturday when he was asleep near the Sehwan new bus stand.

SNAKE BITE: A person, Qasim 35, son of Budho Khan, died of a snake bite in Sehwan on Saturday.
