ISLAMABAD: A newborn baby died on Wednesday at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) as, according to Pims Joint Executive Director Dr Minhajus Siraj, there was not a single incubator vacant.

Wajid Khan, father of the baby, while talking to Dawn said his son was born in Dargai district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at a private hospital on Sept 8.

He said when the baby was given feed his colour turned blue. So referred him to Pims Children Hospital where the baby was admitted but doctors told him to shift the patient to a private hospital as Pims did not have a single incubator vacant.

He said he was left with no option but to shift his baby to Benazir Bhutto Hospital Rawalpindi where doctors admitted the baby but the condition of baby deteriorated due to delay in admission and he expired on Wednesday morning.

When contacted, Pims Joint Executive Director Dr Minhajus Siraj said there were 13 incubators in the Children Hospital and not a single one was vacant.

“Doctors cannot do anything in such situation so father was advised to shift the baby to some other hospital,” he said.
