LAHORE: A fresh medical report of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif submitted to the Lahore High Court reiterates that he must undergo coronary catheterisation as there is a significant part of myocardium at risk.

The report prepared by Dr David Lawrence of London, a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon, states that Mr Sharif is being managed primarily in London and as the specialists and healthcare facilities know his care thoroughly, therefore strongly advises him to stay in London, UK for better medical management.

The two-page report duly certified by the local notary public says various medical options and investigations sorted from time to time confirm significantly reduced blood supply to the heart and impaired functionality, Ischemic heart disease, status post CABG and multiple PCIs.

It says Mr Sharif will be scheduled for PCI, coronary intervention as the hospitals schedule elective procedures. However, Covid-19 pandemic has been disruptive for very many patients.

The consultant further advises that as Mr Sharif falls in the high-risk category, it’s mandatory to weigh all options to make it safe for him to go through intervention.

“Mr Sharif has told me that he has been kept in solitary confinement for a prolonged period of time during his imprisonment in Pakistan which he feels has contributed negatively towards his health,” he adds.

The consultant says the patient warranted conservative medical management to stabilise in reference to the multiple complex diseases he suffers from and was the mainstay of treatment options.

“I recommend him to take routine walks and engage in healthy physical activity, continue medical therapy and keep a regular follow-up,” Dr Lawrence states in his report.

The LHC had in 2019 permitted Mr Sharif to travel abroad initially for a period of four weeks allowing bail to him on medical grounds. The legal counsel of Sharif was instructed to keep filing periodical medical reports.
